This was sold in 1949 to a consortium and was used to carry duty frees from North Africa to the South of France\/Northern Italy (in other words \u2018smuggling\u2019 ) and was eventually caught. Picture above &#8216;Laloun&#8217; and below one of the boats used in the film. <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">S-10, was <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">converted to a private motor yacht, \u2018mv Taifun\u2019, at Falmouth Boat Construction, and In the film, she was MGB 1087 \u2018after the war\u2019. Three different boats were in fact used n the filming, S-10, MTB 528 and MTB \u2018Gay Dragoon\u2019. Sometime after the film was made \u2018mv Taifun\u2019 was sold and skippered by Hugh Edwards, the brother of the comedian Jimmy Edwards, motored to Tangiers and was <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u2018lost\u2019 in \u2018suspicious circumstances\u2019 in the Mediterranean&#8221;<\/span> (thanks to &#8216;British Military Powrboat Team&#8217; website for this information) The story of what happened to the Taifun is told in the book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Midnight.jpg\">&#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>Midnight Trader&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/shipshame.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/shipshame.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11482\" width=\"600\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/shipshame.jpg 954w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/shipshame-300x115.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/shipshame-768x294.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/truck.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11508\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/truck.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"167\"><\/a>Still going through Hans Helweg&#8217;s sketches and I found three that go with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2022\/LonelyRoad.htm\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;Lonely Road&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Nevil Shute 1968 edition. Looking at the later 1962 edition and the 1971 , these both feature the element of the burning truck as seen in the first edition with a cover by David Tayler. I think the later 1962 edition might be by Pat Owen as he did several which appeared in this &#8216;bands&#8217; style. I could make a few guesses as to the 1971 but would love to know for certain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/bond.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"319\" height=\"104\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/bond.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11505\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/bond.jpg 319w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/bond-300x98.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 319px) 100vw, 319px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Three James Bond related snippets this week. The first is one you probably already know about but I hadn&#8217;t noticed in until it was mentioned on a Facebook page that Rex Archer&#8217;s cover for <em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;<a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/PANG101.htm\">Diamonds are Forever&#8217;<\/a><\/span> <\/strong><\/em>bears an uncanny resemblance to James Meese&#8217;s &#8216;<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>Widow&#8217;s Pique&#8217;<\/strong> <\/em><\/span>from Perma.
