{"id":1361,"date":"2013-07-22T05:59:52","date_gmt":"2013-07-22T05:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/?p=1361"},"modified":"2013-07-22T05:59:52","modified_gmt":"2013-07-22T05:59:52","slug":"the-young-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/2013\/07\/22\/the-young-series\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;The Young &#8230;.&#8221; Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While sorting out some artwork I came across the original covers for <a title=\"Mary\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2013%20Large\/Plaidy.htm\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;The Young Mary&#8221;<\/span><\/a> and <a title=\"Elizabeth\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2013%20Large\/Plaidy.htm\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;The Young Elizabeth&#8221;<\/span><\/a> both by Jean Plaidy and published by Piccolo in 1972. There was a third title &#8220;Meg Roper&#8221; but this was not published by Piccolo and I wondered why? On investigation I found that the first two titles had been used by Macdonald Roy for their series &#8220;The Young\u00a0 &#8230;&#8230;&#8221; and as well as including Mary and Elizabeth they also featured John Milton, the Brontes, Charles Dickens,\u00a0 Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Alexander the Great , James Barrie, Marie Curie, Sir Francis Drake, Thomas Edison, Louis Braille, Helen Keller and others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Young.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1364\" alt=\"Young\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Young.jpg\" width=\"504\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Young.jpg 504w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Young-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Young-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have not discovered who\u00a0painted the covers for the two Piccolo Plaidy titles but the inside illustrations are the ones that Macdonald Roy used in their 1968\/69\u00a0editions and are by William Randel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While sorting out some artwork I came across the original covers for &#8220;The Young Mary&#8221; and &#8220;The Young Elizabeth&#8221; both by Jean Plaidy and published by Piccolo in 1972.
