There are literally dozens of printers proofs of his covers plus several roughs both painted and drawn in pencil. I&#8217;ll be featuring them in the coming weeks as blog items. The first one is for PAN 434 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/PAN434.htm\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;The Gun Tamer&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Max Brand where the rough is the mirror image of the final artwork. I have also included a link on the front page of my website to a pencil rough by Tayler for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2022\/Hornblower\/Hornblower.htm\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;Lieutenant Hornblower&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a> until some &#8216;new&#8217; news comes up.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-18205\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cone-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"131\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cone-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cone-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Cone.jpg 370w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 131px) 100vw, 131px\" \/><\/a>The CD <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2026\/March\/Spy.htm\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;Come Spy With Us&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/a> has a PAN pastiche, or is that homage, cover. Why they had to put fake crease lines on it I don&#8217;t know as, annoyingly, we get enough of those anyway. It has 25 themes to &#8216;spy&#8217; related film and television series. In the accompanying booklet they feature a few PAN books covers along side a bit of blurb.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Donkey.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Donkey-1024x532.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18200\" style=\"width:500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Donkey-1024x532.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Donkey-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Donkey-768x399.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Donkey.jpg 1316w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">While in Warwick I picked up a copy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2026\/March\/Donkeys.htm\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;Down Among the Donkeys&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/em> <\/a>by Elisabeth Svendsen as it looked vaguely familiar but was published by Whittet Books, a publisher I hadn&#8217;t come across before. On getting home I found why it rang a bell as it was a title previously published by PAN with the same cover but with the PAN logo covered over. I have a few examples of this sort of thing including Totem titles from Canada and Hinkler in Australia. PAN also published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2026\/March\/Donkeys.htm\"><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;The Great Escape&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Elisabeth Svendsen as a Piccolo.
