His latest exhibition <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theartworks.org.uk\/en\/event\/275\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;Cargo in the Blood&#8217;<\/span><\/a> <\/span>opens in Halifax on 22 February and runs to 19 April 2015<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I was also in contact with George Sharp this week and he emailed me an interesting story concerning the cover for &#8216;Testament&#8217;;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">&#8220;I remember &#8216;First Blood&#8217; vividly because I thought the book was remarkable. I depicted a moment in the writing when the rifle was being raised into the air as the protagonist &#8211; soon to become the hugely famous\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800000;\">Rambo\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0emerges from a hideout in the snow.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">It was the &#8220;Okay let&#8217;s go get the f**kers!&#8221; moment.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">So I painted the image to be reproduced like this &#8211; upside down. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Testament.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2626\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Testament-300x260.jpg\" alt=\"Testament\" width=\"300\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Testament-300x260.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Testament.jpg 449w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>But it was not to be. <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\">David Larkin, the art director of Pan at the time, liked the work as being an example of how to paint giving the appearance of being very detailed without actually it being painted in a detailed way.&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/unnamed2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2624\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/unnamed2.jpg\" alt=\"unnamed[2]\" width=\"300\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/unnamed2.jpg 454w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/unnamed2-188x300.jpg 188w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having mentioned Russell Mills in the last blog I have now managed to track down seven of his PAN tiles and I&#8217;ve also included a few of the ones he produced for the PAN Picador imprint.
