Today I am showing the only two <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/\/Blog\/Helweg\/Helweg.htm\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">PAN titles<\/span> <\/a>(the others being from PAN&#8217;s children&#8217;s imprint Piccolo) I was really pleased to find they were for two Erskine Caldwell titles and both signed by Hans Helweg.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Sig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2959\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Sig-300x154.jpg\" alt=\"Sig\" width=\"300\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Sig-300x154.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Sig.jpg 352w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>They are about as raunchy as PAN got back in the late 50&#8217;s and\u00a0early 60&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Helweg was Danish and I think his dates were 21st Feb 1917 to 23rd June 2008. Information\u00a0is scarce but\u00a0I did find this on a blog from Hereford College of Art<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">&#8220;The widow of Illustrator Hans Helweg, Sue Bell has kindly donated his easel, brushes and other art materials to the Illustration course. Hans was a brilliant Illustrator who is most famous for his work with Paddington Bear creator Michael Bond on his Olga da Polga books. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Olga1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2962 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Olga1-1024x557.jpg\" alt=\"Olga1\" width=\"565\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Olga1-1024x557.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Olga1-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Olga1.jpg 1364w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px\" \/><\/a>Hans also illustrated many book covers for Pan in the early 1960&#8217;s and his artwork is still much collected by fans of the English\/European &#8216;pulp fiction&#8217; scene. I will be writing more about Hans later in the year&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I have contacted both the author of the blog (last updated 2011?) regarding the last line and the college regarding the donation and possible contact details for Sue Bell but up to now have heard nothing<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Just found a Reader&#8217;s Digest Condescend Book version of &#8216;River God&#8217; which was illustrated by <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/tikit.net\/Bott%20Books\/Nevil%20Dear\/NevilleDear.htm\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Neville Dear<\/span> <\/a>.
