Born in Leeds, Eddison was privately educated before going \u00a0to Oxford and ended up a senior civil servant\u00a0eventually retiring to write full time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All these four titles were originally published by Ballantine in the US\/Canada \u00a0with covers by Barbara Remington before being reprinted\u00a0by PAN\/Ballantine in the UK. It&#8217;s interesting to note the overprinting where prices\u00a0and US book numbers have been covered up. I&#8217;ve put together a page to show some of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/\/Bott%20Books\/Remington\/Eddison.htm\">PAN\/Ballantine <\/a><\/span>variations I have on my shelves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/BR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/BR-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"BR\" width=\"126\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/BR-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/BR.jpg 249w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 126px) 100vw, 126px\" \/><\/a>Barbara Remington is probably better know for the Ballantine covers for Tolkein&#8217;s &#8216;Lord of the Rings&#8217; trilogy. She is quoted as saying she would have\u00a0&#8216;definitely drawn different pictures had I read the books first&#8217; not being able to get hold of copies prior to painting the covers! This is a question I&#8217;m often asked &#8216;Did the artists read the books first&#8217; to which the answer seems to be &#8216;Very rarely&#8217; not being given enough time, just a pr\u00e9cis, \u00a0although PEFF said he did.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I see the original concept\u00a0artwork for the cover of<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/itm\/J-R-R-Tolkien-Original-Ballantine-Book-Cover-Concept-Art-By-Barbara-Remington-\/231454210148?hash=item35e3bef864:g:f8wAAOxyVaBStGmu\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;The<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Fellowship of the Rings&#8217;<\/span> <\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">is currently on eBay at \u00a314,395.50,\u00a0a poster as seen in this picture for \u00a31,51.37 and a boxed set of the books just like the ones I got for \u00a39.99\u00a0 are listed at \u00a3238.87!
