I have the first printing from 1959 and the 6th printing from 1962 which seem almost\u00a0identical apart from the adverts in the back although I&#8217;m sure I read somewhere there were other differences?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The cover is by James E McConnell. The signature has only been half trimmed off on the 1959 edition but almost all on the later. It looks like he signed &#8216;Jas&#8217;<br \/>\nnot &#8216;James&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/JM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4508\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/JM-286x300.jpg\" alt=\"jm\" width=\"262\" height=\"274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/JM-286x300.jpg 286w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/JM.jpg 377w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/a>He was the son of Thomas McConnell and Margaret Loadman and was born in Bedlington, Northumberland on 15th July 1903. He married Adelaide Godfrey Bambridge in December 1933 and they lived at &#8216;Katina;, Nork Hill, Reigate Road, Epsom. Adelaide died in 1946 and he then married Rosina Lince in Tadworth on 27th September 1947. McConnell died at &#8216;Low Barbary&#8217;, Amberley Lane, Milford, Surrey on 4th May 1995. He left \u00a3155,004<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The MGM\u00a0movie from 1959 was to the\u00a0fourth adaptation of the book by General Lew Wallace following on from the 1899 play by Klaw and Erlanger which ran for twenty years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/BH2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4527 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/BH2.jpg\" alt=\"bh2\" width=\"500\" height=\"341\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/BH2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/BH2-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Then came the 1907 and 1925 silent screen versions.
