Well it turned out there were several contenders for shortest including\u00a0 &#8216;Jet&#8217;, &#8216;Mia&#8217;, &#8216;Sex&#8217;, &#8216;BRM&#8217; and &#8216;Raj&#8217; but only one for the longest &#8216;Booth&#8217;s Handbook of Cocktails and Mixed Drinks&#8217; by John Doxat. This was\u00a0first published by PAN in 1966 and a revised hardback edition was published in 1967 by Arthur Barker which seems to be a reverse of the norm.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/HardBack.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4890\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/HardBack-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"hardback\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/HardBack-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/HardBack.jpg 654w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>In the blurb\u00a0in the PAN\u00a01983\u00a0edition it says<span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8220;John Doxat, who has been described in an American journal as Britain\u2019s \u2018foremost thinking drinker\u2019, was born the day the Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated at Sarajevo; was educated at Charterhouse and in Paris; practised varied journalism (wartime service in the Intelligence Corps); went into PR i9, and thence into the broader field of publicity and advertising with Booth\u2019s, and in 1969 became publicity manager of Buchanan Booth\u2019s Agencies Ltd, the DCL subsidiary, distributors of Black &amp; White and Buchanan\u2019s Reserve Scotch Whisky, Strathconan Malt Whisky, Booth\u2019s Finest Dry Gin, High and Dry Gin, Cossack Vodka and Hine Cognac&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Click <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2017\/JohnDoxat.htm\">HERE<\/a><\/span> to see the page of PAN covers including one variation from 1973 I&#8217;ve only found on an American sellers website where he\u00a0is asking \u00a342.28 plus \u00a327.07 postage!!! Doxat seems to have written many books over the years but with a consistent theme, namely drink. One\u00a0 has a link to another favourite of mine, James Bond, in that\u00a0007 gets a mention on the back cover of &#8216;Stirred &#8211; Not Shaken&#8217; published by Hutchinson in 1976.
