{"id":6399,"date":"2018-09-17T05:29:42","date_gmt":"2018-09-17T05:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/?p=6399"},"modified":"2018-09-17T05:29:42","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T05:29:42","slug":"erle-stanley-gardner-frederick-pohl-and-a-byo-bookmark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/2018\/09\/17\/erle-stanley-gardner-frederick-pohl-and-a-byo-bookmark\/","title":{"rendered":"Erle Stanley Gardner, Frederick Pohl and a BYO Bookmark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Having just picked up a copy of &#8216;The Case of the Lazy Lover&#8217; by E S Gardner from 1972 I looked at the back and found it was another title in the series that PAN occasionally called;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BestCrime.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BestCrime-300x140.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BestCrime-300x140.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BestCrime.jpg 454w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Soritng out the covers that are the same style I find I have 15 Gardner&#8217;s so far and they can be seen <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2018\/Gardner\/Gardner.htm\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">HERE<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">listed in date order.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Please let me know if you have any more to add.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I also picked up an unread copy of &#8216;Farthest Star&#8217; by Frederick Pohl and Jack Williamson and is the first title in the<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2018\/Layzell.htm\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;Saga of Cuckoo&#8217;<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">series but only this title was published by PAN. It has been signed by Pohl who did it very carefully and I&#8217;ve resorted to taking a photo rather than putting it on the scanner so as not to force it open.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Pohl1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Pohl1-278x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Pohl1-278x300.jpg 278w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Pohl1.jpg 454w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The cover for &#8216;Farthest Star&#8217; is by Bob Layzell and I contacted him and he kindly replied<em><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> &#8220;I&#8217;m afraid I no longer have a copy of &#8220;Farthest Star&#8221; but you may use any photo&#8217;s from my albums. I remember the art director of Pan at that time was called Dave Larkin who was very helpful and introduced me to &#8220;Young Artists&#8221; This cover was also the first I had published in 1976&#8242;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BobLayzell-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6413 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BobLayzell-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BobLayzell-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/BobLayzell-1.jpg 724w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It surprises me how many of the &#8216;Young Artists&#8217; covers for PAN were recycled for the &#8216;Anticipation&#8217; s\/f series by Fleuve Noir in France.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Anticipation.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6085\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Anticipation-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Anticipation-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Anticipation.jpg 654w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I also picked up a bookmark fo<\/span>r <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2017\/Assorted\/BYO.htm\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;Bind Your Own&#8217; <\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(BYO) and this time advertising a PAN tile <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tikit.net\/Blog\/Adventure\/LastEnemy.htm\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;The Last Enemy&#8217;<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">unlike the last one which was for a Fontana title.
