Tony was the chief blurb writer at PAN from January 1962 to November 1964 and he has very kindly written an article which will appear in the &#8216;<em>Macmillan Together&#8217;<\/em> newsletter for former Pan and Macmillan staff but he has also let me have a copy which you can read <a href=\"https:\/\/tikit.net\/2020\/TonyWhitehorn.htm\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">HERE.<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-medium is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/X135b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/X135b-186x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9179\" width=\"229\" height=\"369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/X135b-186x300.jpg 186w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/X135b.jpg 454w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I asked Tony if he had a favourite &#8216;blurb and he replied<\/span> <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>&#8220;One of my favourite books, which I found exceptionally thrilling and moving, was <strong>&#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/PANX135.htm\">Seven Men at Daybreak&#8217;<\/a><\/span><\/strong> (I knew nothing of the Heydrich assassination then &#8211; cinema and television hadn&#8217;t yet made it well-known) and for that I decided to highlight the moment I had found most tense, that when the two brave Czechs waiting for Heydrich&#8217;s car saw it suddenly sweep into view&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Reeman.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9171 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Reeman-241x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Reeman-241x300.jpg 241w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Reeman.jpg 294w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/><\/a>This is the fifth and final title of the PANs I recently bought that were signed to members of staff at PAN. It is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2020\/DouglasReeman.htm\">&#8216;<em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">In Danger&#8217;s Hour&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a>, one of the three Douglas Reeman titles I&#8217;ve found that have the PAN logo on the front. The artwork for all the titles is by Brian Sweet. I contacted Brian by phone, coincidentally almost two years ago to the day, asking if he knew where the artwork was? He said he have a look to see if he still had it but as I&#8217;ve not heard back I am presuming he wasn&#8217;t successful.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Still trying to find a 1969 copy of Morton Thmpson&#8217;s book <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>&#8216;<a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/2020\/NotAsAStranger.htm\">Not As A Stranger&#8217; <\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span>but I did find there was a Signet title on which some of the stories in this was based.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/50Years.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"454\" height=\"733\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/50Years.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/50Years.jpg 454w, https:\/\/www.tikit.net\/panfans\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/50Years-186x300.jpg 186w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 454px) 100vw, 454px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently received comment on a blog from Tony Whitehorn to which I sent a reply by email.
