‘The Moneychangers’, Another ‘As Seen On TV Entry, ‘£9.99’ and Martin Baker

PAN published two editions of ‘The Moneychangers’ by Arthur Hailey.

Watching old editions of ‘Fawlty Towers’ I spotted something I must have missed the first time round so added it to my ‘As Seen On TV’ page. Basil is reading in bed and the book looked familiar, it was ‘JAWS’ by Peter Benchley and is the second printing from 1975. It is often listed as a first but it has the girl swimming while a true first doesn’t plus a first is 60p while a second 70p. The screen capture is from Series 1 Episode 3 ‘The Wedding Party’ from October 3rd 1975.

I was amused by the editions of ‘£9.99’ and ‘£6.99′ by Frederic Beigbeder published by PAN Picador as not only are they the price but also the titles with supposed price labels on the front covers to match. It tells of Octave Parengo, genius who is about to hit rock bottom, who, no matter what he does to get himself fired, he inevitably lands a promotion. Sounds a bit like me! Frédéric Beigbeder  (21/08/1965) is a French writer, literary critic and television presenter. He won the Prix Interallié in 2003 for his novel ‘Windows on the World’ and the Prix Renaudot in 2009 for his book ‘A French Novel’. The labels are printed on and reflect the price charged for the book.

With Jules Burt having visited Martin Baker to make a video of them talking about his Fontana Christie covers, Martin recently asked me if I would mind putting on a link to his website which I happy to do and you can find it HERE. It shows the wide range and versatility of his excellent portfolio. If you want to see all 68 titles featuring the ‘Foxtail’ Christie covers, you can find them HERE in a post from a couple of years ago, proof that I do occasionally take a detour from PAN for something I like.
